This is a blend of two wild agave species — jabalí (Agave convallis) and tebequil (Agave tebecuel) — co-fermented and distilled together. It is not a blend of finished spirits. The two agaves were roasted in the same pit, crushed together under the same tahona, and fermented side by side in the same pine vat. They became one thing before they became a spirit.
Jabalí is one of the most challenging agaves to work with. Its sugars are unpredictable — the fermentation can stall, go sideways, or produce off-flavours without warning. Many mezcaleros avoid it entirely. Felipe Garcia works with it because, when it goes right, the result is unlike anything else: a spirit with a primal, earthy quality that other agaves simply cannot produce.
The tebequil in the blend adds structure and depth. Where jabalí brings wildness — petrichor, wet leaves, red clay — the tebequil brings a focused intensity: hay, white pepper, a tobacco-like finish. Together, they produce something that neither could alone.
Only 52 litres were produced, yielding 41 bottles. This is a spirit for people who want to experience what mezcal can be at its most raw and uncompromising.
"Jabalí doesn't want to be mezcal. You have to convince it. And when it agrees, it gives you something no other agave can."
