Twenty-three bottles. That is the entire UK allocation of this expression — and when they are gone, there is no guarantee of another batch. Tebequil (Agave tebecuel) is among the rarest agave species used in distillation. It grows wild in remote highland areas and takes over two decades to mature.
The spirit itself justifies every year of waiting. On the nose, there is slate and petrichor — a mineral, rain-on-stone quality that is immediately arresting. On the palate, fermented plum gives way to hay and white pepper, with a finish that seems to go on indefinitely, shifting and revealing new dimensions for minutes after each sip.
Felipe Garcia produced just 30 litres from this batch — a single distillation run from a small number of mature plants he found and harvested over several weeks of walking the hills. The batch was distilled in August 2021 and has been resting since.
This is not an everyday mezcal. It is a bottle for a moment that matters — a celebration, a turning point, a night when you want to understand what this spirit is truly capable of at the edge of its range. It is the most expensive expression in the Gota Gorda lineup, and it earns every penny of it.
"Some agaves you find once. You make what you can from them. And then you remember."
